“A prison in Thailand that allows inmates to fight for their freedom… that’s the best elevator pitch ever. On the surface, Prison Fighters is a real life bloodsport. But, when you peel back the layers, it’s a story of father seeking a second chance at redemption. As crazy as it sounds - the fighting, the murder and the mafia, it was all subtext to a far more compelling theme: forgiveness. It was this perspective that kept me excited about traveling to Thailand and embedding myself in a Thai prison for a month. Between the language barrier, unpredictable schedule and obvious safety concerns, most would shy away from making this project their directorial debut, but I’ve never been one to shy away from a challenge. This project set the tone for the rest of my career, and confirmed that I was not only capable of handling the expectations of a massive network gamble, but delivering an award winning film.”
